assistant coach - Youth

Position Type

Hourly, Part-time, Seasonal

Compensation

$21 - 25/hour, depending on experience

Role Expectations and Responsibilities

The Assistant Youth Coach is responsible for supporting the delivery of effective, inclusive, and well-organized high school rowing programming that reflects ERA’s mission and values.

Assist Lead and Head Coaches in implementing ERA’s youth and high school curriculum, including team-building activities, land-based instruction, and on-water rowing.

  • Teach and reinforce foundational rowing skills for novice athletes while supporting continued skill development for returning rowers.

  • Support the execution of structured practice plans that prioritize athlete safety, engagement, and long-term development.

  • Help foster a positive, inclusive team culture that encourages participation, teamwork, and respect.

  • Adhere to all ERA safety protocols and communicate promptly with Lead Coaches and staff regarding safety concerns or incidents.

  • Assist with practice logistics, including equipment setup, rotation, care, and storage; report maintenance needs as needed.

  • Support attendance tracking and communicate participation or retention concerns to Lead Coaches or the Program Administrator.

  • Encourage athlete retention by helping athletes connect with opportunities to continue rowing at ERA.

  • Attend all scheduled practices, trainings, and staff meetings as required.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Previous coaching, instructional, or mentorship experience with youth or adolescents.

  • Ability to work effectively with youth athletes in a structured team environment.

  • Strong communication skills and willingness to take direction from Lead Coaches.

  • Reliable attendance and punctuality for scheduled practices and meetings.

  • Ability to satisfactorily complete a background check.

  • WA State Boater’s License (or ability to obtain before the season begins).

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working with novice athletes or first-time participants in any sport.

  • Experience in youth development settings such as camps, after-school programs, or school-based athletics.

  • Ability to communicate in more than one language, preferably Spanish.

  • Experience supporting inclusive programs that welcome athletes from diverse backgrounds.

  • Interest in growing as a coach within a values-driven, community-based organization.

summer camp coach

The Summer Camp Coach is responsible for the execution of effective, inclusive, and well-organized Summer Camp programming to support ERA’s mission and values.

  • Assist the Lead and Assistant coaches in the execution of the ERA Summer Camp curriculum, including team-building activities, land instruction, and on-water rowing

  • Teach foundational rowing skills

  • Adhere to all ERA safety protocols

  • Help connect athletes with opportunities to continue rowing at ERA

  • Attend all summer camp sessions and staff meetings as scheduled with the Summer Camp Lead

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Prior rowing experience

  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with youth and adults

  • Strong time management skills

  • Candidates must satisfactorily complete a background check

  • First Aid/CPR Certification

  • WA State Boaters License

Desired Qualifications

  • Previous coaching experience, ideally with youth athletes

  • Lifeguard certification

  • Ability to speak fluently in more than one language, preferably Spanish.

  • Experience incorporating the perspectives of multiple communities, including communities of color, to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for participants.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and promote a positive working environment, spirit of cooperation, and react positively to change and conflict resolution.

Assistant summer camp coach

$22.50/hour

Role Expectations and Responsibilities

The Summer Camp Assistant Coach is responsible for the execution of effective, inclusive, and well-organized Summer Camp programming to support ERA’s mission and values.

  • Assist the Lead Coach and help lead the Summer Camp Coaches in the execution of the ERA Summer Camp curriculum, including team-building activities, land instruction, and on-water rowing

  • Work with the Lead Coach to execute effective equipment rotation schedule

  • Teach foundational rowing skills to new athletes and help returning athletes hone their skills in higher level camps

  • Support the Lead Coach in collection of required registration forms. Document attendance communicate any irregularities to the Program Administrator

  • Adhere to all ERA safety protocols and communicate with fellow staff about items relating to safety

  • Help connect athletes with opportunities to continue rowing at ERA

  • Attend all summer camp sessions and staff meetings as scheduled with the Summer Camp Lead

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Previous coaching experience, ideally with youth athletes

  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with youth and adults

  • Strong time management skills

  • Candidates must satisfactorily complete a background check

Role Expectations and Responsibilities

The Summer Camp Lead Coach is responsible for the execution of effective, inclusive, and well-organized Middle School programming to support ERA’s mission and values.

  • Lead summer camp staff in the execution of the ERA Summer Camp curriculum, including team-building activities, land instruction, and on-water rowing

  • With the support of the Assistant Coach, develop and implement equipment rotation schedule

  • Support the Program Administrator in collection of required registration forms. Document attendance and communicate any irregularities to the Program Administrator

  • Teach higher level rowing skills to returning athletes

  • Adhere to all ERA safety protocols, communicate with direct reports about items relating to safety, and be responsible for all safety items at our camp locations

  • Lead the retention of summer athletes and help connect athletes with opportunities to continue rowing at ERA

  • Lead summer camp sessions and staff meetings as scheduled with the rest of the summer camp team

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Previous coaching experience, ideally with youth athletes

  • Previous summer camp experience

  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with youth and adults

  • Strong time management skills

  • Strong leadership skills and ability to work independently of supervision

  • Candidates must satisfactorily complete a background check

  • First Aid/CPR Certification

  • WA State Boaters License
